Communications and People Coordinator

The Royal Horticultural Society is a national charity, devoted to the promotion of horticulture since 1804.  Our vision is to enrich everyone’s life through plants, and make the UK a greener and more beautiful place.  The RHS already has four gardens across the country which together welcome over two million visitors each year. RHS Bridgewater in Salford will become our fifth garden, and our first new garden in 17 years.  At 154 acres, it will be the biggest gardening project in Europe, creating a beautiful destination that will attract visitors from across the country, and beyond.  It will also be our first urban garden.  

Both local communities, and our members nationwide, are keenly interested in the development of the new garden.  It is a key priority for us to engage and involve as many people as possible in the creation of RHS Bridgewater.  To this end we have already launched tours and volunteering, and are maximising communications across a range of platforms.  We are now recruiting for a role to drive these engagement activities forwards. 

We are looking for someone to join us on this journey who has is passionate about the power of gardening to enhance lives, a creative communicator with experience across a range of formats and platforms, and excited to deepen engagement with our 200 existing volunteers and develop ways through which we can increase and diversify our volunteering community.

This position would suit someone who has excellent written and verbal communication skills, lots of initiative and who wants to learn and take responsibility quickly. 
You must be a team player, flexible and willing to adapt as the role evolves.  You must be highly organised and able to prioritise work to deadlines and maintain high levels of accuracy under pressure. This role will involve some work at weekends and evenings.
