About us

ODI (www.odi.org.uk) aims to inspire and inform policy and practice to reduce poverty by locking together high-quality applied research and practical policy advice.

We are seeking to appoint a Research Officer to join ODI’sDevelopment Strategy and Finance programme. Under the supervision of a Senior Research Fellow, the postholder will contribute to designing and delivering innovative, high-quality and policy-relevant research, policy advice and public-affairs initiatives. You will contribute to policy research and advisory projects, engage with policymakers in research and advisory processes, and disseminate results. S/he will join a growing team of economists and political scientists focusing on major themes in global development. These include international development trends, the domestic political economy of donor nations,  practices and strategies of development agencies, both bilateral and multilateral (including the European Union institutions), and aid narratives and motivations for development. Duties will include managing quantitative and qualitative data analysis, literature reviews and preparing reports.

The Development Strategy and Finance programme provides cutting-edge, policy-relevant research on bilateral and multilateral development agency strategy and finance. We connect the discussions of bilateral agency strategy with those on the future role of the multilateral development system. Our aim is to make agencies and the global development architecture fit for the future and ensure that they are effective and responsive to a changing international environment.

To do this, we work with governments and institutions — both bilateral and multilateral — to help them identify and operationalise their strategic direction, approaches and financing decisions. We also shape the global development architecture by engaging in debates on effective agencies and development finance in an SDG era.

We are a respected and privileged partner for governments and international organisations. Our research, advice and convening has placed us at the heart of global debates about the future of aid, international cooperation and country needs.

Recent programme highlights include:

  • our annual conference, attended by senior policymakers from around 20 bilateral donor countries and high-level representatives from multilateral organisations and foundations;
